The materials included stationery and teaching and learning materials (TLMs) for the basic primary section.

The orphanage, which started in 2011 with eight pupils, now has a population of 162.

Presenting the items, the club’s president, Dr Margaret Ottah Atipo, urged the management of the college to ensure that the items were used for the intended purpose.

Club’s mission

“Our club’s mission is largely on humanitarian grounds, support in educational and health development projects. This one is part of education and literacy project,” she stated.

She said the mission of the rotarians, who are made up of business, professional and community leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian services, was to advance understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, support for education and the alleviation of poverty.

She added that rotarians, who constitute a volunteer organisation of about 1.2 million people, led service programmes in their communities and abroad to address today's most pressing challenges.

A senior pastor of the orphanage, Rev. Janet Karikari, commended the association for the gesture and called on other benevolent institutions to come to the aid of the school.
