In addition to this, the school authorities have procured 50  new computers to support the teaching and learning of the subject.

Announcing this during the 73rd anniversary of the school at Akropong in the Atwima District of the Ashanti Region, the Headmaster, Mr Samuel K. Fordjour, said as part of measures to improve the study of science, the authorities have refurbished the science laboratory at the cost of GH¢20,000.

He said a new science laboratory and classroom block under construction were progressing steadily and that the collaboration with all stakeholders would result in the early completion of the project.

Speaking on the theme: “Moral education as a tool for transformational development”, Mr Fordjour said they have also procured furniture and new equipment for the laboratory with the view of motivating science students to meaningfully focus on their academic programmes.

On the challenges confronting the school, Mr Fordjour said both the school’s dining hall and library could no longer accommodate the large number of students and,  therefore,  needed expansion.

He also said out of the 105 teachers in the school, only 30 had accommodation on the school compound and pointed out that the situation was undermining effective supervision. He therefore, appealed for support to construct more bungalows for teachers.

In an address read on his behalf, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Communication and Sciences  FECS of the University of Education, Winneba, Dr F.K. Sarfo, expressed concern about what he described as the falling moral standards among some of the youth and urged teachers to help instil discipline in students.

The Osei Tutu Senior High School was established by the Methodist Church in 1940 with  120 male students.

The school was changed into a training college in 1955 before it  reverted to its present status as a secondary school in 1972.

Currently, the school has a student population of 2,200, with  105 teaching staff made up of 85 males and 25 females.
