OLA JHS and Primary gets ICT centre

A newly constructed Information and Communication Technology (ICT)  resource centre has been inaugurated at the Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) Primary and Junior High School at Tantra Hills in the Ga West Municipality.

The ICT centre, which has been stocked with 40 computers, was financed by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school.

Inaugurating the facility, the Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, said  ICT was essential to the development of the country, and commended the PTA for providing the infrastructure to promote ICT.

He said the centre would enhance the knowledge of students, and added that “they can now research through this medium and have reliable sources of information which will enhance academic work”.

Outlining some programmes to improve academic work in the municipality, Mr Quaye said the assembly would change all blackboards in public schools to whiteboards.

“I have also revived a scholarship scheme, designed to support students in the municipality who cannot afford their fees and ensure that many more children are enrolled on this scheme,” he added.

ICT is essential

The Head of the Computer Science Department at the Accra Polytechnic, Mr Wisdom Torgby, said one of the basic tools for disseminating information in the 21st century was the computer.

He said the centre would enhance the knowledge of students and  “the students can also contribute to knowledge through the use of these modern computers. I commend the PTA for this strategic initiative’’.

Appreciation

Ms Monica Hammond and Ms Monica Gyamfi, Headmistresses of the junior high and primary sections respectively, expressed their appreciation to the PTA for the provision of the centre, and said the facilities there would enhance the knowledge of the students.
