Okuapeman SHS PTA undertakes water project

The water project included the drilling and mechanisation of a borehole, construction of water transmission pipes and all other ancillary works which were undertaken, with the Ghana Water and Sanitation Agency (GWSA) providing consultancy services and supervision.
The project was described as a big relief to the students and a positive step to addressing the perennial water crisis that has confronted the school over the years.
Until now, students of the school relied on limited sources of water, which made academic work difficult.
The new mechanised water system pumps water into an overhead reservoir and subsequently distributes the water to various dormitories and residences of staff of the school.
Solution of the problem
Handing over the facility to the school, the PTA Chairman, Nii Ayite Hammond, was happy that after 30 years of inadequate water supply, the problem had been laid to rest.
He said the PTA had also spent some funds on the school’s farm, while some funds had also been spent to renovate the school's clinic.
Nii Hammond was optimistic that the resolution of the water problem would encourage students to learn hard. He commended parents for their patience and contribution towards the project and gave the assurance that PTA levies collected would be judiciously used to benefit students and the school.
The Board Chairman of the school, Nana Ansah Sasraku II, who is also the Akuapem Mamfehene, thanked the PTA for solving the water problem since it would give the students the peace of mind and boost academic work.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Daniel Afari, also commended the PTA and was of the belief that the project would promote and enhance teaching and learning.
