At a ceremony held in their honour at the Freeman Methodist Chapel at Tutuka in Obuasi, the beneficiaries were charged to study hard in order to reach greater heights, while projecting the image and aspirations of the Methodist Church.

Dedication and hard work

The Lay President of the Methodist Church Ghana, Mr Kwame Agyapong Boafo, charged the beneficiaries to be determined in their chosen careers, and work through dedication and hard work to achieve academic excellence.

He urged them to spend precious time with their books and added that that was the only way they could secure their future and effectively contribute their quota to nation-building.

Scholarship scheme

The Connexional Guild President, Mr Jonathan Bassaw, said the award of the scholarships had brought the number of beneficiaries to 23 since its inception in 2008, and indicated that as part of the package, each of them would be given an annual support of GH¢800 till they completed school.

According to him, the society's objective was to hunt for brilliant, needy students in the church while transforming them through human resource development.

On behalf of her colleague beneficiaries, Ms Milicent Okyere commended the society for its support and assured the congregation that they would make the Obuasi Diocese in particular and the Methodist Church Ghana proud.
