Obrachire Senior High Technical gets new board

The Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mrs Owusu Achiaw, has urged Boards of Governors of Senior High Schools (SHSs) to effectively collaborate with authorities of such institutions to maintain high standards of discipline.

She stated that the maintenance of proper discipline in schools was an important pre-requisite for improving the academic performance of the students, particularly in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations.

According to her, indiscipline and student unrest were on the increase in SHSs and it was incumbent upon school authorities and the boards to devise strategies to prevent them from gaining grounds in second cycle institutions.

Mrs Achiaw gave the advice when she swore in a 13-member reconstituted Board of Governors for the Obrachire Senior High Technical School (OSTECH) in the Awutu Senya District in the Central Region.

The new board, with a three-year mandate, is chaired by Mr Charles Tetteh Kwao Dodoo.

Mrs Achiaw said discipline in schools was indispensable in the delivery of quality education.

Shun backbiting

She advised the board against usurping the powers and responsibilities of the school authorities since such a move would greatly affect the effective administration of the school.

She also urged them to put their expertise together towards the development of the school, as well as improve the performance of the students.

Headmaster

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kwami Alorvi, commended the outgoing board members for their sacrifices individually and collectively towards the progress of the school.

He urged the new members to bring their expertise to bear to address infrastructural, academic, financial and staff management challenges confronting the school.
