The Local Authority School in the community has received a six-unit classroom block which replaces the old school building which has seen no major renovation since it was constructed in the 1980s.

Additionally, Tigo has constructed a staff common room, a headmaster’s office and toilet facilities for the school.

A short ceremony to hand over keys to the building to authorities of the school attracted pupils and the entire community of Obeng Yaw.

The Chief Executive Officer for Tigo, Ms Roshi Motman, said Tigo’s ‘Shelter 4 Education’ initiative was aimed at providing good infrastructure for quality teaching and learning in rural communities in the country.

Learning environment

“Education is key in nation building and as a brand, we want to contribute in shaping the lives of these children who in the future will build Ghana. By providing both the pupils and teachers with a conducive learning environment they can concentrate on their studies”, she said.

The chief of the community, Nana Obeng Yaw II, lauded Tigo for the initiative and pledged to ensure that the new building was well maintained for the benefit of the children in the community.

Under the company’s new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Tigo Ghana is putting up a six-unit classroom block with headmaster’s office, staff common room and toilet facilities for some selected schools in the rural areas under a project named, Shelter 4 Education.

All the selected schools will be furnished with tables, chairs, and school uniforms and books for the pupils.
