The renovation was the first of a series of corporate social responsibility projects NMS International intends to provide under the code name “Giving back,” alongside the hospital construction projects.

The project was a collaboration between NMSI and Kugrago Primary School where NMSI funded the renovation of the school.

The head master of the school, Mr Joseph Ayambila said that he was “extremely thrilled” to be receiving this support from NMSI.

The project consisted of renovating the external and internal school; providing one of the classrooms with a concrete floor; renovating the football pitch with corner flags and goal posts.

Caroline Young, the Corporate and Social Responsibility Manager of NMSI said “this is what we enjoy doing. It is not just about bringing a new district hospital to the area it is also about what we can also do for the community.”

The renovation was co-ordinated by Jean Lausberg, Site Manager and Jim Adams, assistant site manager at Garu Tempane and approximately 20 workers who volunteered to help.

NMS Infrastructure Limited won the bid to construct new hospitals in six communities across the country under the “Build to care” programme.

The seven projects are being constructed at a total cost of $175million, with funding from Barclays Bank Plc and Barclays Ghana.

It involves six fully equipped district hospitals in Dodowa in Dangme West District; Abetifi in the Kwahu East District; Fomena in the Adansi North District, and Garu in the Garu-Tempane District.

The rest are Kumawu in the Sekyere District and in Sekondi in the Western Region.

NMS infrastructure will also upgrade the European Hospital in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly as well as the provision of hospital information technology and pharmaceutical management systems.

Mr Peter Marks, Director for NMS International Group, speaking at a press briefing in Accra said the six hospitals will each have 120 new beds, dedicated medical, surgical and maternity wards, modern and traditional treatment choices, and local public health programmes.

He said work is far advanced with the other hospitals in the regions and was optimistic that by the end of 2016 all the projects would be fully completed.

The crèche was in a terrible state, mud construction of wall, doors and windows were dilapidated and falling everywhere, very unsafe for the kids,

There was no paint on the walls, the one classroom did not have a floor in, just soil, in general very dirty, with no real educational material for the kids. Below are pictures from the renovation works.
