NGO presents laptops to schools at Kpando
The American Programme for Educational Enhancement in Developing Countries (APEEDEC), a non-governmental organisation in the United States of America (USA), has presented 100 laptops to the Kpando Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enhance the study of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in basic schools in the area.

Fifty of the laptops were presented to the Togbe Agodoa Kitti Memorial Junior High School at Sovie with the remaining 50 to be distributed among selected schools according to the directives of the municipal directorate of the GES.
The donation of the computers was facilitated by a citizen of Sovie, who is resident in the United States of America (USA), Professor Lawrence Agodoa, who had set up a model JHS at his home town in honour of her late father, Togbe Agodoa Kitti.
Presentation
The presentation was made in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the school which was marked with a durbar, poetry recitals, cultural performances, music and singing on the theme, “Quality Education Delivery: The role of stakeholders”.
In an address, Professor Agodoa said in the past three years, the school was filled to capacity and many deserving students could not be admitted, adding that funds from APEEDEC were used to complete another school block that was started with the help of the Council of Ewe Association of North America (CEANA).
He said the supply of computers to the school had made it more attractive to students, who had performed well in their final examinations within the past 10 years, and expressed the hope that the school would continue to see positive achievements, thus upholding its motto, “Go forth and Shine”.
Public Private Partnership
The Economic Planning Officer of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, Mr Christopher Afenyo, said the donation by a citizen of the town must be celebrated within the context of public private partnership (PPP) arrangement and that APEEDEC should also be appreciated for promoting education in developing countries through the establishment of schools in areas where there were no schools.
He entreated APEEDEC to extend its kind gesture to other rural communities in the Volta Region in order to expand the scope of computer literacy in schools and communities.
Spirit of nationalism
The Kpando Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs Paulina Delali Adinyira, called on well-placed persons in the municipality to work in collaboration with the municipal assembly towards the implementation of projects to accelerate the development of the area, adding that they must exhibit an exemplary spirit of nationalism towards the building of their homelands.
The Municipal Director of the GES, Mr John Kodjo Teku, commended those who had contributed to the development of the school and called for greater activation of communal spirit for the continuous delivery of services for education.
In his welcome address, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Ernest Quist, said the school had made phenomenal strides in the academic and sporting fields since its establishment.
