The books, procured by the organisation in collaboration with Children International of the United States of America (USA), cover Mathematics, Science and English.

Making the presentation, the Country Director of Youth of Choice, Mr Kwame Boakye-Yiadom, said the NGO donates books to support primary, senior high schools, public and community libraries and tertiary institutions to enhance quality education.

Access to libraries

He observed that a number of public schools in rural areas had no access to libraries and books and that created a gap in the educational system and contributed to falling standards in education.

He advised the youth to not  engage in anti-social vices, but rather utilise their time profitably in reading to acquire knowledge.

Receiving the books, the South Dayi District Chief Executive, Mr Semenu Bekui, said he was overwhelmed by the gesture and was optimistic that the donation would help the assembly to establish and stock libraries at vantage points in the district to help the students to develop a reading culture.

Mr Bekui advised heads of the beneficiary schools to take good care of the books and ensure that students engaged themselves in reading.

The South Dayi District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Madam Sitsofe, encouraged pupils and students to develop the passion for reading in support of their studies.
