The block, constructed at a cost of GH¢243,000 with funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), in collaboration with the Central Gonja District Assembly, has offices for the head teacher and teachers, as well as a library and sanitation facilities.

Abandoned project

Tamaklam, a fishing and farming community is one of the remote, deprived and hard-to-reach communities in the Central Gonja District. Before the construction of the classroom block, the teachers and pupils of the school held classes in a mud- thatched building.

Speaking at a handing-over ceremony at Tamaklan, Mr Ibn-Yacin said, the classroom block was one of the abandoned projects in the district, and expressed the hope that the new block would enhance teaching and learning in the community.

He expressed gratitude to the GETFund for the support, pointing out that education remained one of the topmost priorities of the assembly and would continue to provide the necessary support to ensure quality education delivery in the district.

He urged the school authorities to take good care of the building to prolong its life span.

Appreciation

The Circuit Supervisor for the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) for the area, Mr Abdul Aziz Abdulai, who received the keys to the classroom block, on behalf of the district director of education, thanked the assembly and the government for the gesture.

He gave the assurance that the structure would be put to good use. In an interaction, the pupils expressed their joy for the new school block and said it would motivate them to go to school every day .
