Mrs Elizabeth De-Souza, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, thanked the old board of the school for their dedication and hard work.

She said, under the law, public higher institutions should be controlled by boards of governors, committees of management or such other bodies performing similar functions. She said it was in view of the law that boards of governors were being constituted.

According to the regional director, the boards were subject to a constitution. They are expected to control the general policy directives either from the Ministry of Education or the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, as well as to ensure the good use of funds of the institution and fully discipline staff and students.

The director said the rules were to serve as a guide so that the boards would not take the laws into their own hands. She urged students to cooperate with the boards, since their work was a voluntary service.

Ms Lucy Banini, the Chairperson of the outgoing board, appealed to the incoming board to build on the achievements of the outgoing one.

All the members of the old board were honoured.
