Dubbed Nido Nutrition Day, the programme, which was attended by school children and their parents, was part of the company’s social responsibility in promoting good nutrition and healthy lifestyle to contribute to the development of children.

It took place at the Boahene Korkor Presbyterian Primary School and covered three clusters of schools with a population of more than 1,000 pupils.

Balance diet

Through dramatisations, interactive games and a quiz competition, mothers were offered the opportunity to learn about good nutrition, balanced diet, the importance of breakfast and health benefits of having iron, calcium and vitamins in the right amounts in their diets.

Quiz Competition

In a quiz competition organised as part of the programme, Ms Elizabeth Afedzie was crowned the winner and presented with GH¢500.00 as scholarship for her son Lord Saah of the Sunyani Ebenezer Presbyterian Preparatory School (SEPPS). It was intended to provide financial assistance next academic year.

Advice

Speaking at the ceremony, a nutritionist and dietician, Ms Priscilla Copson advised mothers to be conscious about the diet of their children.

She asked them to ensure that their children were fed balanced diets to promote proper growth and enhance their academic performance.

Global Commitment

The Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Department of Nestle, Mr Aaron Fenu said Nestle had made a global commitment to help reduce the risk of under nutrition through micronutrient-fortification.

He said the company aims to reach 200 billion annual savings of micronutrient-fortified foods and beverages worldwide by the end of 2016.

According to Mr Fenu, in the Central and West Africa regions, Nestle provided consumers with 58 billion daily savings of micronutrient-fortified foods and beverages in 2015.
