National Service personnel urged to put Ghana first

The Western Regional Minister, Mr E.K.T. Addo, has advised national service persons not to allow themselves to be used by any politician to foment trouble as the country awaits the Supreme Court’s verdict in the ongoing election petition.

He said service persons should think of Ghana first and desist from negative tendencies that may affect the peace in the country.

Mr Addo gave the advice at the national launch of this year’s National Service Week celebration at Takoradi in the Western Region.

The regional minister, who was the guest of honour for the occasion, called on the youth to be creative, innovative and adopt the “can-do-spirit”.

“There is limited room for conservative thinking” he said, and asked service persons not to be afraid to be different since “these are the essential ingredients to success” in whatever they choose to do.

The acting Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS), Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, asked Ghanaians not to let the peaceful environment being enjoyed now change into anything negative.

Alhaji Imoro hinted that 84,000 new national service persons would be deployed across the country next month to offer a year’s service to Ghana and this would be just after or about the time the Supreme Court would give its verdict on the 2012 election petition.

The Chairman of the National Service Board, Mr. W. Nkunu Akyea, noted that the transition period for national service persons, as they exited the scheme into the world of work was very important for service persons as it presented an opportunity for them to make their choices in their roles towards national development.

The Omanhene of Esikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, who was the chairman for the occasion, called on the youth to put Ghana first in all their endeavours.
