The project, which started last year, has 16 rooms for the boys dormitory with students’ bunk beds, and a housemaster’s bungalow. It was undertaken by the company as part of its corporate social responsibility, and also to support the government’s efforts  to ease accommodation problems of the students.

Addressing the chiefs and students during the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Prof. Franklin Manu, said the organisation remained committed to the cause of implementing sustainable initiatives that would enrich the lives of people in the communities.

Speaking on behalf of the chief executive officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Serame Taukobong he said, the old dormitories of the school were congested and lacked basic sanitary facilities, and so that had forced the school authorities to convert classrooms into hostels to help accommodate the students.

According to him, since the MTN Foundation was established in 2007, the foundation had spent over GH¢14.5million in the provision of educational and health projects and also supported economic empowerment projects.

He called on the management of the school to ensure proper maintenance of the building.

The Chairman of the board of the school, Nana Asare Afriyie, expressed his appreciation to the foundation for the project and called for the creation of a special fund by stakeholders to maintain the facility.

The Headmaster of the school, Nana Konadu Yiadom, said over the years, the school’s academic performance had improved and was optimistic that the provision of the facility would enhance the academic performance of the school.
