The Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, Mr Joseph Yieleh Chireh, has handed over an early-childhood development centre, constructed at a cost of GH¢69,000 with funds from his share of the GET-Fund, to the Ollotee Primary School in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The project, which comprises two classrooms, an office and store, is the fourth of such projects the MP has undertaken to  lay what he called a solid educational foundation for children in his constituency. The other three projects are located in the Piirteng, Erbieteng and Naaha communities.

He has also promised three other communities, namely Wuokuraa, Kuzie and Lassia-Bille, similar facilities from his share of the District Assembly Common Fund very soon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chireh called for an end to early marriage and elopement and rather encouraged parents to send their daughters to school.

The MP, who was touring the constituency in the company of Mr Dasaana Adamu, the Wa West District Chief Executive (DCE), and other dignitaries, also inspected works on the GH¢5.5 million Dorimon Community Senior High School (SHS) project, one of the three World Bank-funded community SHS projects for the region. The other two are Lambussie and Zini community schools.

Progress of project

Work on the classroom and laboratory blocks for the Dorimon SHS, which started last August and is scheduled to be completed after 18 months, is progressing steadily.

The contractor, Mr Gideon Kugbonu, says barring any unforeseen circumstances, they hope to complete the project before schedule.

The MP also visited Nerikoteng, a farming community, and its environs, which had been devastated by a recent rainstorm during which the roofs of 28 houses were ripped off, rendering 496 people homeless.

He sympathised with the victims and called on the National Disaster Management Organisttion (NADMO), benevolent institutions and individuals to come to the aid of the victims who are now living with  relatives.
