MountCrest, Nelson Mandela School of Law sign MOU

The faculties of law of the MountCrest University College (MCU) in Ghana and the Nelson R. Mandela School of Law of the University of Fort Hare (UFH) in South Africa have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster academic collaboration between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed at the East London Campus of the UFH.

The Vice Chancellor of the UFH, Dr Mvuyo Tom and the Dean of the School of Research and Graduate Studies & Capacity Building of the MCU, Prof. Kwame Frimpong, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

A statement issued by the management of the MCU said the agreement sought to establish a mutually beneficial international partnership and academic collaboration between the two institutions.

It involves an exchange programme for staff and students of the two institutions to enhance their academic pursuits.

Further, the statement said the two institutions had agreed to collaborate in the supervision of postgraduate studies of their students.

Other partnership activities

The UFH is a high education public institution which is almost 100 years old, while the MCU is a high education  private institution which was co-founded by Mr Kwaku Ansa-Asare and his wife six years ago.

In spite of the huge difference in age, both partner institutions share a common interest in sound legal education in their respective countries, the sub-regions and Africa as a whole.

Academic staff members of both faculties have been interacting with one another at various scientific conferences and also engaged in other networking activities.

Many academic staff members of both faculties have, on numerous occasions, served as peer reviewers or moderators of academic programmes and examinations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

“It is against this background that the two faculties adopt this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which seeks to establish a mutually beneficial international partnership and academic collaboration between the two institutions, especially in the areas of staff and student exchange programmes, as well as supervision of postgraduate studies,” it said.

The statement said under the MoU, some masters and doctoral students of the MCU had been admitted into the UFH for postgraduate studies in 2015.
