MotherCare School marks 50th anniversary

The MotherCare School located at Burma Camp, was founded by  Madam Theodora Acquah Asare, the wife of an army officer, who had the passion to provide education for the kids of army officers.

The school started operating as an educational centre in June 1965 with one classroom and eight pupils. From a humble beginning, the school now has two three-storey buildings, with 80 classrooms, a nursery, kindergarten block and an administration block.

Student population

It also boasts a student population of  700 with 80 teaching and non-teaching staff.  The school would be 50 years next year. A year-long programme of activities has been planned to celebrate the Golden Jubilee.

At the launch of the anniversary, which was held at the graduation ceremony for some students, the proprietress of the school, Ms Sheila Acquah Asare, said the theme for the occasion “50 years of holistic education towards national development; advancing creativity and technology”, was chosen to conscientise students towards their role in nation- building and the need to see technology as a driving force in development.

Speaking at the launch, the MP for La Dadekotopon and deputy Minister of Agriculture in charge of Fisheries, Nii Amasah Namoale, charged parents to take the education of the youth seriously and work tirelessly to see their children through education successfully.

Educating the youth

“Education of the youth is paramount to national development and we must all endeavour to work assiduously to ensure our children go to school and acquire the best education for societal growth and development,” he noted.

He  pledged to provide the institute with sanitation equipment and dustbins to enable them to keep the school compound clean.

Graduands from KG2 , junior high school 3 (JHS 3) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) were presented with certificates of graduation.
