Mfantsipim gets new 18-member board

The Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast has inaugurated an 18-member board of governors for the school.

The re-constituted board, with a three-year mandate, has the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel K. Asante, as its chairman.

The others include Rt. Rev. Nicholas K. Asane, Bishop of Cape Coast Methodist Diocese; Very Rev. Solomon Grant-Essilfie, General Manager of Methodist Educational Unit; Dr Ato Essuman, representing Methodist Church Ghana; Prof. K. K. Adarkwa, representing Director-General, Ghana Education Service (GES); Mr Augustus N. L. Cleland, Central Region Director of Education; Ms. Vivian Etroo, Metropolitan Director of Education; Mrs Betty Djokoto, Headmistress of Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast; and Mr Koame M. Edjah, Headmaster of Mfantsipim School.

The rest are Mr Magnus Rex Danquah, MOBA Representative; Anthony Forson, Jnr., School Lawyer; Mr Rolland Jojo Duncan, representing Mfantsipim PTA; Mr Michael K. Obeng, representing Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly; Mr Andoh Kwofie, Regional Commander (Police) representing Security; Mr Samuel F. Abruquah, representing Teaching Staff; Mr Samuel G. Stephens, representing Non-Teaching Staff; and MR J. C. Aitpillah Akpoh, Mfantsipim Assistant Headmaster (Academic) as Secretary to the Board.

 

 Inauguration

Inaugurating the board, Mr Cleland, charged the board to abide by the constitution governing the school to promote effective teaching and learning.

He stressed the need for the members to use their varied experiences and expertise to assist the headmaster to move the school forward.

Mr Cleland also emphasised the need for them to ensure that the resources of the school were used effectively to benefit  the students and  for the growth of the institution.

 Headmaster

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Edjah, charged the students to take their studies seriously to become responsible adults in future.

A former headmaster of the School, Mr Crosby Ashun, who chaired the function reiterated the position that as much as the headmaster and his staff were ultimately held accountable, the board would offer new perspectives and varied assistance to empower them to deliver to  stakeholders’ expectations.

On behalf of the members of the  Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. Asane thanked the school for the confidence reposed in them, and assured that “we will stay committed to our clarion call, both collectively and individually to improve the School’s performance as well as push it to the highest level within our tenure of office”.
