The university has, in pursuance of the objective, assembled a team to advise on the appropriate location for the medical school which will form part of the long-term vision of the Methodist Church of Ghana.

“We have already established a school of nursing training at Wenchi as part of the long-term preparation towards putting up the medical school,” the Vice-Principal of the MUCG, Rev. Prof. Joshua Kudadjie, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in Accra during the fringes of the opening session of the 114th Western West African Episcopal District of the East Ghana conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church last Tuesday.

He said the nursing school was currently going through an accreditation process to be affiliated to the University of Cape Coast.

Prof. Kudadjie explained that the National Accreditation Board had already visited the school and the MUGC was expecting to receive a report from the board soon.

The Nurses and Midwives Council, he added, was also expected to inspect the school in line with regulations.

Prof. Kudadjie expressed concern about the government’s decision to impose taxes on private universities, as private educational institutions were not profit-making ventures and, therefore, implementing such a decision could affect their capacity to expand.

The four-day conference, which is on the theme: “Building a legacy with God for such a time like this”, brought together members of all the eight districts that make up the East Ghana Conference of the church.

They  comprise Tema,  Accra North,  Hohoe, Agbozume, Accra Central, Keta, Ho and Penyi.

The Presiding Prelate of the church, Rt. Rev. Dr Seth O. Lartey, urged Ghanaians to live in peace, especially when the Supreme Court gives judgement on the presidential election petition currently before it.

He said there was no better option for resolving the issue of the disputed election than in the court of law and added his voice to calls on Ghanaians to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict.

On the role of the church in national development, Rev. Dr. Lartey said the church had helped to champion the cause of education in the country and the spiritual development of its members in particular and Ghanaians in general.

He called on the membership of the church to close their ranks by committing themselves to the work of God.
