Methodist College of Education holds matriculation

The Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ms Ophelia Koomson, has noted that the training and retaining of teachers is key in providing quality education for the country.

She said the government was, therefore, committed to expanding the infrastructure of the various colleges of education and the provision of materials to help them train more teachers.

Ms Koomson was speaking at the first year anniversary and matriculation of the Methodist College of Education at Akyem Asene-Aboabo.

“In delivering the Better Ghana Agenda, the government has promised to establish 10 colleges of education throughout the country to expand access and help improve quality of teaching at the basic levels  education in Ghana,”she added.

She noted that the government was still committed to delivering that promise.

The MCE indicated that “we in the Eastern Region are lucky as the government’s promise of establishing a university in the area is vigorously being pursued with the acquisition of land at Somanya.”

Ms Koomson commended the Methodist Church for its enormous contribution to the socio-economic development of Ghana especially in the area of education and health.

The MCE said the church also had three colleges of education and a university to its credit.

She expressed the hope that the church would continue to partner the government in improving the living standards of Ghanaians.

Ms Koomson reminded the students that to succeed as a teacher, discipline was a key or core value, and therefore advised them to be disciplined at all times.

She took the opportunity to announce that the region was aggressively pursuing the President’s directive of naming all streets in the country. GNA
