Methodist Church commended for providing quality education
The Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has commended the Methodist Church in Ghana for its role in providing quality education for the youth of the country.

Speaking at the launch of the Methodist Education Week celebration in Accra last Tuesday, she said the role of the Methodist Church in the education sector could not be overemphasised.
The week-long event is on the theme; “Christian Education for Effective Citizenship.”

Mrs Amissah-Arthur observed that the Methodist Church had a long history of involvement in the country’s education sector, and recalled that the first missionaries from the Methodist Church arrived in Cape Coast in the pre-independence era.
“Education over the years has been an integral part of the mission of the Methodist Church and holistic education has been their focus,” she added.
Christian education was very important, she stated, and urged parents to instill in their children good moral values that would help shape their lives in a positive light.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur noted that the challenges of the present age required that children should be given sound Christian education to enable them to navigate the challenges of life.
While urging the Methodist Church to continue to provide good training for children in its schools, she advised students enrolled in the schools to eschew laziness, disobedience and other negative practices.
“As a country, what we need are people who can stand up and be different, selfless and committed with integrity,” she stressed.
Reverend Asante Antwi
In his key note address, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante Antwi, who launched the event, said the education unit of the church had over the years provided quality education for Ghanaians.
He said education formed the basis for the development of the country’s human capital and was, therefore, a most valuable asset to every nation.
The presiding bishop called for environmental awareness to help minimise the wanton dissipation of Ghana’s natural resources, including dealing with the incidence of illegal mining operations.
