Meridian Pre-University not closed down
The authorities of the Meridian Pre-University (MPU) College at Odorkor in Accra have disassociated their college from the Meridian University College (MUC) located on the Kasoa-Bawjiase road at Kasoa in the Central Region.

The management of the MUC has decided to close down the university college as a result of low enrolment and financial challenges.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra yesterday, the President of the MPU College, Mr Tettey Nettey, explained that the school had no relationship with the MUC.
“The MPU is a pre-tertiary institution, not a tertiary institution. We are accredited by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). We have been in business since August 1, 2007,” he said.
No relationship
He further explained that the MPU College was a member of the Meridian-Marshalls Holding (MMH) Ltd, an umbrella body comprising High Point Academy, MPU and Marshalls College, all located in Accra.
Mr Nettey said the three subsidiaries had initiated processes to list on the Ghana Stock Exchange under the listing name of Meridian-Marshalls Holdings.
He said the MMH provided career-oriented secondary and post-secondary education through its subsidiaries, High Point Academy, the MPU and Marshalls.
Assurance
He assured past and present students of the college that it was in operation, as well as its accrediting and affiliating bodies that it had not been closed down.
“The Board of Directors of the MMH would like to assure its esteemed shareholders that their investments are safe; therefore, they should not panic,” he added.
Background
Following the decision of the management of the MUC to close down the institution, the fate of about 300 students hangs in the balance.
However, because of the similarity in name between the MPU College and the MUC, a section of the public had mistakenly taken it that the former was to be closed down.
That was what had prompted the MPU College authorities to offer an explanation on the matter.
