The Mangoase Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region received a cheque for GH¢1,500, a bag of rice, cartons of soft drinks, biscuits and assorted items as part of an appeal made towards its 22nd anniversary and the first-ever Speech and Prize-giving Day.

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Accra Regional Police also received two computers and accessories.

Anchito Foundation for Education and Self-Help (AFES), a non-governmental organisation based in Yilo Krobo, also received toiletries, detergents, napkins and other sanitary ware for its operations.

The Director of Communications at the Melcom Group, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, told journalists that the presentations were part of the company’s CSR which it undertook annually.

According to him, the company’s social responsibility was geared towards health and education where it supported institutions in need.

He said Melcom received hundreds of applications for support, saying the company did its best to vet the requests and supported the ones that were in line with its CSR.

Mr Avenorgbo said Melcom had, over the years, supported many organisations and institutions and would continue to extend help to more needy organisations.

He said the group would celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2014, saying it had decided to extend support to institutions in the areas of health and education.

The Director of Brand Management at Melcom, Mrs Sonya Sadhwani, said the company, through its care and relief efforts, would ensure that it supported the needy in the best way that it could.

The Headmaster of the Mangoase SHS, Mr Sampson Agyiri-Nyarko, thanked Melcom for the gesture, saying the school was really appreciative of what had been given to it.
