Maths, Science Quiz first runner-up receives scholarship

A US-based non-governmental organisation, Erratic Truth Foundation (ETF), has honoured a first runner-up of the 2015 National Maths and Science Quiz, Mr Theophilus Wereko Acheampong, with a full-time scholarship to further his education at the tertiary level.

The four-year scholarship package, which includes tuition and accommodation, was offered to him after the authorities of his former school, Adisadel College, appealed to the NGO to support him due to his family’s financial constraints.

The 19-year old, who completed Adisadel College in 2015, scored seven As and B in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The scholarship package was presented to him at a ceremony held at Adisadel College in Cape Coast.

Support the needy

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on the package, a representative of ETF, Dr ROS Pobee, said one of the major objectives of the foundation was to support brilliant, needy students to realise their academic vision.

Over the past years, he said the foundation, which is made up of Alumni of Adisadel College, had undertaken many projects to support the needy in school.

According to Dr Pobee, plans were advanced to upgrade current facilities at Adisadel College for it to become one of the best in the country.

He also urged Mr Acheampong to take advantage of the offer given him to pursue his future ambition with all seriousness.

The Headmaster of Adisadel College, Mr William Kusi Yeboah, commended the leadership of ETF for the support given to “one of the school’s best students.”

Mr Yeboah said Mr Acheampong devoted his four-year school days to support the school’s activities academically.

According to Mr Yeboah, the youngster gained admission to study BSc Electricals/ Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, but was compelled to stay back because of financial difficulties.

He also lamented that the academic dreams of several brilliant, needy students such as Theophilus had been cut because of financial challenges and appealed to old students and other organisations to help put the needy, highly resourceful students back in school.
