The Mampong Midwifery/Health Assistant Training School is undertaking a number of projects to improve teaching and learning at the school.

These are the construction of two Skills Acquisition Laboratories, also known as Demonstration Rooms, and an ICT laboratory with internet facility for all the 1,816 students of the school.

Currently under construction is a four-unit classroom block to provide more facilities for the increasing number of applicants, as well as rehabilitation of the road network in the school.

The Principal of the college, Mrs Lydia Asieduah Yamoah, announced this at the 60th anniversary celebration of the school.

As part of the ceremony, a 1000-seater auditorium was inaugurated. The facility would also serve as an examination centre and be used for other social gatherings.

Mrs Yamoah said the school was in the process of establishing a partograph learning centre.

A partograph is a graphic record of vital observations during the course of labour in order to assess the progress of labour, to enable health officials to carry out appropriate interventions when necessary. It helps to prevent and manage prolonged or obstructed labour and serious complications, including ruptured uterus, obstetric fistula, and stillbirths.

Provision of accommodation

Mrs Yamoah also commended private hostel developers for providing accommodation for the increasing number of students, which she said was one of the major challenges confronting the college.

She, however,  made a passionate appeal to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, through his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, to help build a modern library to replace the existing one which could only accommodate 35 students.

She also appealed to the general public to help the school acquire a 50KVA electricity power generating plant.

Government’s commitment

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Yammin, commended authorities of the school for helping to raise its image,  saying over the years the Mampong Midwifery/Health Assistant Training School has remained one of the best health training institutions in the country.

For her part, Lady Julia commended the principal of the school for her competent managerial skills over the past 10 years that she had been in office, adding that her excellent and insightful leadership styles had propelled the school into a centre of excellence for midwifery training.

She assured the principal that she would communicate her appeal to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the needed action.

The Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who chaired the function, suggested that the 1,000-seater auditorium be named after the principal of the college for her excellent performance.
