Lower Manya Krobo MP assists schools

THE Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has donated educational materials to some public and private junior high schools in the municipality.

The MP distributed 2000 Cock Crow English Literature books to the final year students and also gave each of them five note one exercise books.

Mr Terlabi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said the presentation of the items was aimed at boosting the morale of the final year students to improve upon the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results in the municipality.

“I believe that when a candidate is able to read the questions before him or her very well, he or she will be able to answer them very well. I therefore see the need to support them with this new literature book “Cock Crow” which has been introduced into the system for them to improve on their reading skills” he said.

Competitive test

Mr Terlabi said he would organise a competitive test from the Literature book for all the JHS final year students in the municipality and the best candidate would be sponsored to the senior high school with full scholarship.

He advised the final year students preparing for the BECE to work hard in order to improve on their academic performance.

In a related development, the MP, in collaboration with the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate, has organised an orientation course for 36 newly-trained teachers who have been posted to the municipality.

The participants were taken through channels of communication in the GES, conditions of service, code of conduct in the GES, School Records, School Performance Improvement Plan (SPIP), conflicts and crisis management and lesson preparation.

Professionalism

The MP thanked them for accepting to come to the municipality and advised them to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He said the municipality scored 71.88 per cent in this year’s BECE, but with their efforts, it could score 100 per cent in the subsequent BECEs, and explained that the goal could be achieved if the newly trained teachers put in their maximum efforts.

The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Margaret Aku Vormawor, said she was grateful to the MP for his support.

In her closing remarks, Mrs Agnes Atipoe, Deputy Director of Education in charge of Finance and Administration, who was one of the resource persons, appealed to the newly-trained teachers to let their teaching activities have a positive influence on the learners.
