LOSA 83 hands over assembly square to alma mater

The 1983 Year group of the Labone Senior High School (LOSA 83) has handed over a newly constructed assembly square to the school.

The 887-metre square facility christened ‘LOSA 83 Square’, was financed by members of the year group at a cost of  GH¢31,000.00 as part of their contribution to beautify the school, ahead of its forthcoming speech and prize-giving day in October, this year.

According to the year group, the capacity of the school’s assembly hall could not hold the student population at a time, hence the need to construct the square.

Contribution to alma mater

Handing over the project to the school in Accra last Thursday, the President of the group, Mr Prosper Daniel Blagogee, underscored the need for old students to contribute their quota to their alma mater.

“We have decided to do such a big project for the school because the school needed it, you don’t do a project for your old school when they don’t necessarily need it”, he added.

Aside from being an assembly point, he said the square was going to serve other purposes, such as grounds for  official ceremonies, as speech and prize-giving days.

Commendation

For her part, the Headmistress of the school, Ms Kate Bannerman, applauded the group for the initiative.

“It has been a long-standing problem, whenever it rains, the place gets flooded and so it was also the dream of the school to have the place paved”, she explained.

She added that the location of the school was ideal for people who would want to hold events at the square.
