‘Let’s descend on SPACO for homecoming’

The leadership of the old students association of St Paul’s Senior High School (SPOSA) in Denu has called on past students of the school to retrace their steps back to the school to help built their alma mater.

The call comes ahead of a homecoming event the old students are organising to, among other things, inaugurate some development projects, announce new initiatives and spell out a road map to help authorities of the single sex school established by the Roman Catholic mission to address a number of challenges hampering teaching and learning.

The President of SPOSA, Mr Sesi Dzakpasu, told a section of the media ahead of the November 27-29 Homecoming that the immediate project was to stock the school library with books on various disciplines, and also furnish the dining hall with benches and tables.

On the theme, “Rebuilding SPACO”, the old students will organise a health screening for teaching/non-teaching staff, and students, interact with the student body, the authorities and the school’s community as well as fraternise with them during dining sessions to relive old days.

St Paul’s Senior High School (SPACO) has a population of about 1,636 students as of the last academic year. There are about 1,172 boarders and staff strength of 136 (both teaching and non-teaching staff).

One of the high performing schools since it was established, the school’s performance in both academic and sporting events took a nose dive in recent years for which the school leadership has worked diligently in order to recover the lost glory.

While at it, the support of the old students is considered key to consolidate recent gains and place the institution back in the ivory league of schools in the country.

Mr Dzakpasu said a number of graduating years had been grouped to champion the projects estimated at over GH¢60,000. For instance, the library stocking project is being championed by the year groups from 1992 to 1994, while the dining hall project would be spearheaded by a group comprising old boys from the early 1970s to date.

Other year groups would also donate gallons of paint, personal computers for the school science laboratory, and sporting equipment.

The SPOSA president, supported by the Board Chairman of the school, Mr David Nutakor, urged the old boys to show up in their numbers to lend their support and put their shoulder to the wheel.
