Speaking to the Daily Graphic in the Parliament House in Accra when he hosted 40 female pupils selected from 18 schools in the Nkwanta-North District, he said: “It is about time all barriers to the education of females, especially those in rural areas, were removed. Parents, opinion leaders, traditional authorities and all who matter must take steps at the local level to protect these female children from falling prey to early marriage and teenage pregnancy.”
The legislator said early marriage and teenage pregnancy were the major causes of school dropouts among females, especially in the rural communities.
He also called on traditional authorities and opinion leaders to desist from meddling in defilement and teenage pregnancy cases
