Lecturer gives Fodome library, ICT lab to improve education

A lecturer of the Methodist University, Madam Victoria Tsedrah, has constructed a library with ICT facilities at Fodome a town in the Hohoe municipality of the Volta Region.

The library is stocked with books worth thousands of Ghana cedis to help students in the locality to do research and also enhance their education.

A Canadian non-governmental organisation, Sisters You Are Not Alone (SURNA), which has shown interest in partnering Madam Tsedrah to enhance literacy at Fodome through reading, also donated over 1,000 books to further equip the library.

At the inauguration of the library, Madam Tsedzah, a native of Fodome Hloma where the library is situated, stated that as an academician and a mother, she decided to assist the community in that regard because it was only through education that future dreams could be realised.

Passion to experience distinction

She said her passion was to see most students in the locality move up the academic ladder with distinction and that could only be achieved if students were made to read relevant books and do research work to support their studies.

The lecturer, who said education was the gateway to the future, advised that teachers within the eight communities that formed the Fodome enclave should assist the students to explore by encouraging them to read.

Madam Tsedrah, who stated that reading clubs had been established in the various schools to realise her dream, added that “in the near future, I would like to see an ultramodern library complex constructed for the people”.  

More computers needed

The Founder of SURNA, Mrs Antoinette Baileys Tornu, said her outfit would continue to provide educational support for Fodome and appealed to other organisations to join in making lives better in the area by, especially, equipping the ICT lab with more computers.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, who graced the occasion, said the enthusiasm exhibited by leaders of Fodome to welcome the project showed the readiness of the people to improve education and push their children to higher levels.

He encouraged students to take advantage of the books in the library to learn hard and added that the government was ready to offer the necessary support to improve on quality education.

Mr Ganyaglo advised them to aspire to become great leaders, emphasising that with the opportunity they had, they could not fail their parents and society at large.

 

The Hohoe Municipal Chief executive, Mr Peter Worlanyo Abomah, urged parents and teachers to ensure that the library would not become a monumental structure by encouraging children to visit the facility regularly.
