Labone SHS old students assist alma mater

The Headmistress of Labone Senior High School (LSHS), Ms Kate Bannerman, has urged heads of second cycle institutions to adopt measures to prevent students from indulging in social vices.

She said the staff of the school became alert following the news of homosexual acts on some campuses and were sensitising students to the effects of the act and other social vices.

“We meet the students on regular basis, each housemaster knows every student, and we know when they go to bed, conducting inspections at odd times,” she stated.

1980 year group

Ms Bannerman said this when the 1980 year group of Labone Old Students Association (LOSA) handed over a borehole to the male dormitory of the school in Accra last Wednesday.

The borehole, valued at GH¢12,000, will serve as a back-up to relieve the school of its persistent water challenges that have existed for some years.

“Water challenges in the school have affected the school academically and financially, so we commend the 1980 LOSA group for helping us. My appeal to other year groups is to emulate their gesture,” she said.

Expenditure on water

The school on a daily basis has to spend GH¢700 on two tankers of water to address its water challenges,” Ms Bannerman said.

That, she said, made students to get to class late, because they had to travel some distance in search of water.

Handing over the borehole to the school, the President of LOSA 1980, Mr Jeremiah Lamptey, said as old students they believed in giving back to their alma matter, hence the project.

The government, he explained, needed to be supported in providing basic needs of its citizens because not every one could be reached.

The group, he said, was putting up a programme to educate students, so they would not fall prey to social vices that could truncate their aspirations.
