Addressing the ceremony, which was attended by dignitaries such as the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin and the East Akyem Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Simon Peter Asirifi, the Principal of the college, Rev. Benson Nkansa-Kyeremateng, said the high level of discipline, coupled with highly qualified staff, had led to all the final year students coming out with laurels.

He said the sterling qualities of the tutors who continued to perform creditably had also made it possible for 44 out of the 177 Level 200 students to score Grade ‘A’ in Information Technology, while 28 out of 163 Level 100 students offering Religious and Moral Education also had Grade ‘A’.

Rev. Nkansa-Kyeremateng indicated that with such performance, it was obvious that the college’s academic record at the final examination next year would be further enhanced.

Sports

With regards to sports, the principal told the gathering that the college’s sportsmen and women did well at this year’s Eastern and Greater-Accra Inter- Colleges of Education Games, which took place at Ada during which the college won gold, silver and bronze medals in different events.

Infrastructure

Concerning infrastructure, the principal said the college’s internally- generated funds had been used to renovate the principal’s apartment,  and women’s hall of residence but could not complete the resurfacing of the internal and access roads and called for the release of funds from the GETFund to complete the project.

An educationist and chief of Ahwerease, Nana (Prof.) J. A. Opare, who was the guest speaker, said the country needed highly qualified teachers.

Intellectual death

Nana Opare, who dwelt extensively on discipline and quality education, indicated that while physical death was painful, intellectual death was more devastating.

He, therefore, appealed to all Colleges of Education to produce well-qualified teachers to guide students and pupils.

Such academically good students, he stated, had the tendency of becoming professionals in various fields to help improve society.

Okyenhene speaks

The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, asked parents to be responsible for the education of their children and also support teachers to discipline their children to grow up to become useful citizens.

That, according to the Akyem Abuakwa Overlord, was the only way to reduce poverty in the communities.

He also advised the graduating students to build their careers in line with technological changes for the enhancement of society.
