Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. N. N. N. Nsowah-Nuamah, Rector of the Polytechnic, said the institution admitted only 4,500 out of the total number of 7,000 applicants, who were able to meet the polytechnic’s admission requirements.

He said out of the number, 2,972 were males and 1,528 were females pursuing programmes in Medicine and Health Science, Creative Art and Technology, Engineering and National Environment among others.

He called on the students to consider their education as their future career and live happily, productively and responsibly within their communities, adding that the polytechnic would not compromise on its academic standards.

Prof. Nsowah-Nuamah pointed out that the Kumasi Polytechnic, like all tertiary institutions, took examinations very seriously, and based on this principle,16 students who were caught indulging in examination malpractices during the second-semester examination of the 2012/13 academic year had been dismissed.

He called on the fresh students to remain focused and strive to be morally developed, mature, develop intellectually and be self-disciplined to enable them to overcome future challenges.
