The presentation came barely 72 hours after the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, promised to provide 500 dual desks for the school.

Dr Bawumia’s promise followed his visit to the school during which he found that most of the pupils were lying on the floor to read and write, thus hampering effective teaching and learning.

Ministry responds

Alhaji Sulemani, who was accompanied by the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Issahaku Nuhu Puthiaha, and officials of the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said additional 1,500 pieces of furniture would be made available so that any school in need could be assisted.

He explained that the measures had been put in place already for the supply of the furniture when news broke  Friday last week that the children had been lying on the floor during class hours. He added that the school had some furniture but that was not enough for the 487 pupils, as they needed the 200 desks to solve the problem.

Appreciation

Master Shaibu Gyanwad and Miss Barikisu Iddrisu, both pupils of the school, expressed their profound joy after the presentation.

The Headmistress of the school, Miss Rosina Die, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the government for creating an enabling environment to promote effective teaching and learning in the school.
