The centre, which serves the school and its surrounding communities, has been equipped with 10 computers, a printer, a scanner, air conditioners and other ICT equipment, as well as a storeroom and a washroom.

The centre, worth over GH¢100,000, is to enable pupils from the communities to have practical lessons in ICT.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic last Thursday after a tour around the ICT centre, the Country Lead of MICLG, Mrs Yaa Peprah Amekudzi, said the ICT centre was built for the school, after considering 100 proposals received by some communities they work with, to promote teaching and learning.

Effective learning

Mrs Amekudzi stressed that even though ICT was an examinable subject, most of the schools lacked ICT centres to enable them to study the subject effectively, pointing out that the situation always put pupils from less-endowed communities at a disadvantage.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Samuel Kas-Akpaloo, stated that the centre had improved academic performance and enlightened the students because before the centre was built, some of them had not seen the parts of the computer before not to talk of operating the device.

He appealed to benevolent organisations and the government to help them with solar power or standby generator so that the centre could operate in case of any power outage.

In an interaction Mr Daniel Asiedu, the ICT teacher, noted that students were now familiar with technology and indicated that for the past two years, the students had been performing well in ICT.
