It follows a recent directive from the Ministry of Health (MoH) with respect to the planned evaluation of the training of health professionals.

The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, disclosed this to 7,045 diploma graduates from 36 health institutions across the nation which are affiliated to the university.

Sixty-one of the students graduated with distinction.

Specialised institutions

The first batch of students from two specialised institutions: the Physiotherapy and Orthotics Training School in Duayaw Nkwanta and the Brother Tarcicius Prosthetic and Orthotics Training College, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, graduated.

In addition, the KNUST's own staff who have undertaken further studies in the Laboratory Technician programme also graduated.

The vice chancellor expressed the hope that the MoH would complete the necessary processes soon to enable the top-up programmes to be resume.

Three years ago, the KNUST, the MoH and the various health training institutions signed a memorandum of understanding to be under the academic mentorship of the university in order to maintain high standards and professionalism.

As a result, moderators have been assigned to all the schools for the purpose of maintaining high standards in terms of examination, student supply systems, administrative system, procedures, among others.

Prof. Obiri-Danso urged the graduates to accept posting to the rural areas because that was where their services were needed most.
