KNUST signs MoU with four institutions

The Kwame University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with four educational institutions for collaboration into research and training of students from these institutions.

The MOU was signed at separate ceremonies held at the university in Kumasi.

The institutions are the Sunyani Polytechnic in the Brong Ahafo Region, the Presbyterian University College at Abetifi in the Eastern Region, the Brother Tarcicius Prosthetics and Orthotics Training Centre at Aduagyire-Nsawam in the Eastern Region and the Physiotherapy and Orthotics Training School at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The affiliation will enable KNUST to mentor the institutions to strengthen their capacities in the areas of quality training of students, research and exchange of lecturers to meet set standards.

The Rector of the Sunyani Polytechnic, Prof. K. T. Gyan-Fordjor, signed for the school, while the following signed for their respective institutions; the President of the Presbyterian University College,  Prof. Sraku Lartey, the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, Most Rev. Joseph Akwasi Afrifah-Agyekum, (Brother Tarcicius Prosthetics and Orthotics Training Centre) the Catholic Bishop of Goaso, Most Rev. Peter Atuahene,  (The Physiotherapy and Orthotics Training School) and the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. W. O. Ellis.      

Mandate

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Ellis said the university was mandated to strengthen new colleges to enhance the quality training of students to meet the demands of industries in the country.     

He said the affiliation with the colleges was not only to strengthen the capacities of the institutions for quality training but also to enhance research works for the benefit of both the institutions on one hand and KNUST on the other.

Prof. Ellis said the university was very careful in partnering the selected institutions and colleges to ensure quality of delivery, and, therefore, partnering such colleges was to support and mentor them to effectively run some special programmes being offered by the colleges in the areas of Building Technology, Science, Engineering and Agriculture.                        

Commendation

He lauded the religious bodies for their efforts, especially the Catholic Church, for their commitment and concern for the promotion of education and human resource development in the country.

Prof. Ellis said the academic environment was now changing and there was the need to mentor and support the recognised institutions and colleges to deliver quality education in the country.

The beneficiary colleges gave the assurance of their commitment to adhere to rules and regulation of KNUST to ensure quality education at their institutions.

They said the institutions were proud to be mentored by the university to ensure quality education and research programmes at their colleges.
