The library is equipped with a high speed internet software and its corresponding gadgets. It also has video conference and training rooms, a discussions zone and a faculty section.

Dubbed ‘Prempeh II Library’ or Research Commons, the library complex was funded by DANIDA.

The refurbishment formed part of the ‘University Project II’ programme to turn the university into a centre of excellence.

Significance

The university librarian, Dr Samuel Kotei Nikoi, said the facility was to provide quality services, expert assistance and seamless access to research information.

According to him, the facility also incorporated library services and computer technology that would facilitate research works by students and staff, especially those pursuing their Master’s and PhD degrees, in a conducive environment.

Dr Nikoi added that the library combined academic and social space that would promote dialogue, electronic information, research and intellectual development.

Advice

The outgoing Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. William Otoo-Ellis, said as the nerve centre of the university, the managers of the library must ensure the effective management of the facility.

He also advised students to make maximum use of the library by coming up with research work that would accelerate the development of the country.
