KNUST holds matriculation

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Region has held its annual matriculation for fresh students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. W. O. Ellis, Vice Chancellor of the KNUST, said the university offered admission to an estimated 17,748 out of a total of 52,150 applicants and indicated that out of the number, 1,501 students were from lesser known institutions in the country.

He said the KNUST was also admitting students into the KNUST- Zoomlion Institute of Sanitation and Waste Management (KISWAM), its affiliate campus at the Zoomlion premises at Adjirigano near East Legon, in Accra.

The vice chancellor stated that the university continues to set the pace in tertiary education in the country by introducing services to help students access information in a stress-free environment.

He said the application for fee paying and parallel programmes, as well as hall accommodation, booking and payment, were done online to avoid unnecessary delays and long queues, and added that the students registration included biometric fingerprint registration and the uploading of courses in order to eliminate impersonation and late registration.

Ellis pointed out that to strengthen security for off-campus students, especially those staying around Ayeduase and Kotei, the university with the support of the Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service and the communities, was constructing two police posts in the two communities to boost security in the area.

He said such initiatives, together with other already existing internal security arrangements, would go a long way to provide the conducive atmosphere needed for academic work and security within the communities.
