The classroom block is equipped with toilet facilities, washrooms, a headteacher's office and a dining hall for the children. It also has a huge water storage facility to cater for the water, sanitation and hygiene needs of the pupils.

The structure, which is to provide early childhood education for kindergarten pupils in the community, was constructed with funds from the assembly's Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and the District Development Fund (DDF).

At a durbar to inaugurate the structure, the District Chief Executive for Ningo Prampram, Al-Hajj SaRhack Nartey, said the new structure would create a congenial atmosphere for the children who hitherto had their lessons under a shed.

Effective supervision

He said in line with the government's policy to make kindergartens an integral part of the educational system, the assembly decided to move the children into the premises of the main compound of the D/A Basic School in order to ensure effective supervision of both the children and their attendants by the management of the school.

He announced that the assembly had already completed a number of schools and rehabilitated some old structures which were in a poor state, indicating that four new contracts for the provision of new educational facilities in the district had been signed.

There are three six-unit classroom blocks for the Prampram Anglican D/A Basic School, Amanakpo D/A Basic School and Kpongunor D/A Basic School. The other is a three-unit classroom block for the Koni-Kablu D/A Basic School.

He said the assembly had also ordered 500 dual desks for the schools which had been completed, while efforts were being made for the extension of utility services such as water and electricity to those facilities.

Full utilisation

The District Director of Education, Mrs Stephanie Mosore, expressed her gratitude to the government and district chief executive for the provision of the facility for the town and urged parents and teachers to ensure that the facility was fully utilised.

She commended the assembly for pursuing a vision towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) two, which relates to attaining universal primary education.

The education director, however, noted that the provision of infrastructure was not the end to getting the children in school and, therefore, appealed to other stakeholders, including traditional leaders, chiefs, opinion leaders, assembly members and parents, to ensure that children are always in school.

Development projects

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, tasked the assembly to interface with the youth and other stakeholders and showcase the numerous developmental projects executed in the various communities.

The Mankralo of Prampram, Nene Atsurebenta III, who chaired the function, advised the youth to take their education more seriously to enable them to find employment in some of the small and medium-scale enterprises that were springing up in the area.
