The Kinbu Senior High Technical School was established in 1874 during the reign of colonial Governor Rowe.

It later became well known as the Kinbu Middle Boys’ School and finally, the Kinbu Senior High Technical School.

The Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school, Mr Emmanuel Dogbotse, said some distinguished former students of the school included the current President of the country, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the first Speaker of Parliament in the First Republic, Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist; a former Minister of Education during the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), Mr Harry Sawyer; Speaker of Parliament in the Second Republic, Justice Nii Amaah Ollenu, and the convener of citizens’ riot in 1948 in the lead up to independence, Nii Kwabena Bonney, as well as  Mr Emmanuel Joseph Cobblah, the First Administrator of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, in 1923.

The Chairman of the Old Boys Association of the school, Ing. Joseph Oddei, urged all  old students of the school  to come together and develop the school to enable it to take its rightful place in society.

“A cursory glance of personalities who have made significant contributions to the development of the country would reveal a sizeable number of people who attended Kinbu school,” he said.

The current generation of old students of the school could be found in diverse occupations and positions, including politics, the creative arts and hospitality industries, advertising, marketing and aviation.

The first Headmaster of Kinbu Senior High Technical School, Mr Johnson Omudie, chaired the ceremony which was attended by old students, former headmistresses and headmasters of the school, heads of senior high schools in Accra, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school, regional and metro directors of education and sister institutions.
