The boards, valued at GH¢ 4,500, would replace old black boards used in the school for more than half a century.

The Deputy Director and officer in charge of the Ayawaso East Sub-metro Education Directorate, Mrs Mary Adole Dodoo, said the school, which now has a total population of 2,400, had since its inception in 1959 been using black boards and chalk for teaching.

She commended the GRA and Wisewater Foundation for coming to the aid of the school and appealed for support to rehabilitate the school's blocks and dilapidated sanitation facilities.

GRA's objective

The Deputy Commissioner, Communications and Public Relations at the GRA, Mr Kwesi Oppong-Damoah, before handing over the boards and markers, said the donation was part of the authority's corporate social responsibility.

He said the pupils in the school represented the future of the country, hence the need to support them in their education and support projects that would transform their lives.

Mr Oppong-Damoah, however, urged Ghanaians to honour their tax obligations to enable the government  to use internally generated funds for developmental projects for the growth of the country.

Replacing blackboards

The Executive Chairman of Wisewater Foundation, Mr Emmanuel Amarkwei, said the donation was part of an initiative by the non-governmental organisation to replace blackboards with white -boards in various public schools across the country.

He said the main objective of the initiative was to ensure that students accessed well-equipped classrooms to promote effective teaching.
