Jackson College of Education turns out 179 graduates

A cross-section of the graduatesThe Jackson College of Education, established in 2009, as the first private  teacher training college in the country to run a three-year Diploma in Basic Education by Distance Learning, has turned out 179 graduates.

Two graduated with distinction, 90 with credit while 87 graduated with a pass.

The institution currently has three centres at Akrokerri, Kumasi and Techiman, where students occasionally meet with their lecturers to discuss issues in relation with the programmes of study.

In an address read on his behalf at the maiden graduation ceremony of the Jackson College of Education in Kumasi, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, added his voice to the call on the government to support the development of private institutions with infrastructure, human resource and finance to enhance their operations.

He said to help scale up the quality of education in the private sector, there was the need to redouble efforts to bridge the gap between the resource endowment status of private institutions and that of the government institutions by providing the various educational units with donor funds, infrastructure and human resources to maximise the benefits of education in the country.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said when we had a nation with a large deficit in the training of teachers, especially at the basic level, initiatives such as that of the Jackson College of Education should be lauded and supported to help complement government’s effort at providing quality education for the nation.

He commended the board and management of the college for the feat chalked up with the establishment of the college but said there was the need for institutions not only to strive for academic excellence but inculcate critical core values such as discipline and integrity in the students to be good citizens in the country.
