Islamic teachers attend workshop on peace-building
One hundred lslamic teachers are attending a seven-day workshop on peace-building, social cohesion and development in Accra.

The teachers of Islamic culture and language have been selected from 50 Islamic schools in Accra.
Topics being treated at the workshop include ‘Peace among Religious Faiths’, ‘Understanding Current issues’ and ‘Community Development’.
Organised by the Islamic Council for Development and Humanitarian Services (ICODEHS), the workshop is being held on the theme: “Peace Among Religions in Ghana”.
Peace and development
Opening the workshop, the Executive Chairman of ICODEHS, Sheikh Mustapha Ibrahim, said peace was a prerequisite for development in every society.
He said peaceful coexistence between Muslims and adherents of other religious faiths in Ghana had guaranteed peace in the country.
He, therefore, stressed the need for Muslims to continue to coexist peacefully with Christians and followers of other religions.
He said the workshop sought to further equip the Islamic teachers to promote peace in their teachings and interaction with the people.
Concerning development, Sheikh Ibrahim noted it was a shared responsibility among the government, the private sector and all other Ghanaians.
Therefore, he said, facilitators at the workshop would build the capacity of the Islamic teachers to be able to instil the spirit of community service in their students.
The Executive Chairman of ICODEHS noted that many Islamic scholars were not abreast of current affairs, a situation which affected their teachings.
He said renowned scholars would take the Islamic teachers through a series of lectures for them to understand current issues and encourage them to follow and contribute to discussions on national issues.
Workshop director
In a remark, the Director of the workshop, Sheikh Musah Abdul-Kadir, stressed the need for Muslims to continue to live in peace with adherents of other faiths.
Besides, he said, it was crucial for Muslims to be at the forefront of development in their respective communities.
