‘Invest in culinary education’

The government has been urged to invest more in the country’s culinary education, since the industry forms an integral part of the nation’s economic growth.

Addressing students and guests at the 35th graduation ceremony of the EKGS Culinary Institute, the Managing Director of the Processed Foods and Company Limited, Madam Leticia Osafo Addo, said Ghana shared in the growth and development agenda of the continent which aimed at transforming the economy through industrialisation.

That, she said, included the culinary industry, manufacturing, modernised agriculture and sustainable exploitation of the country’s natural resources.

Culinary education is key

Speaking on the theme for the graduation, “Culinary arts education-a key to national development,’’ she explained that Ghana would not meet its growth and development agenda if people were not trained, especially in higher educational institutions, with the appropriate knowledge and skills to transform the economy.

According to her, the state should encourage collaborations among artists, designers, products engineers and also attract new businesses to the culinary art.

Such collaborations, she said, would stimulate new thinking, encourage new product development and make the most of the nation’s collective creative business resources.

‘’ The products of these institutions are the people who can lead the technological transformation and economic development,’’ she stated.

 Graduation

The Director of the EKGS, Mrs Efua Goode Obeng-Kyei, said 110 students successfully guaduated after a six-month intensive and comprehensive training in cake-making and decorating, sugar craft, pastry arts, cookery arts, floral décor, brush up skills, as well as the Wilton course.

She advised the granduats to work harder to achieve their goals.

According to her, the world of work was different from the world of the classroom; thus, they should persevere, adapt and seize every available opportunity to develop themselves.

‘’I have no doubt you will excel in whatever you do if you possess all these attributes,’’ she added.
