‘Include private school teachers in training programmes’

The Proprietor of the Blue Ribbon Academy, Mr Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensah, has appealed to the Education Directorate of the Ga West Municipal Assembly to support in providing free in-service training to teachers in private schools.

He said private school teachers also contributed to the educational development of the country and should, therefore, benefit from such capacity-building programmes.

Mr Afrifa-Mensah made the appeal during the official opening and maiden graduation ceremony of the school at Medie in the Ga West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.

The theme for the occasion was: “Quality education, the role of stakeholders.”

Graduation

Mr Afrifa-Mensah gave an assurance that by September 2017 when the next academic year would begin, the junior high school (JHS) block would be ready to admit students while pupils from Primary Six could also go through JHS in the school.

The school graduated 25 children from kindergarten comprising 14 boys and 11 girls.

Mr Afrifa-Mensah said private school teachers needed in-service training just like those in the public schools because they both ensured the educational well-being of the Ghanaian child.

Sanitation

On sanitation, Mr Afrifa-Mensah noted that “our environment is an eyesore” with the potential of an outbreak of communicable diseases.

He said the school and the surrounding community were inundated with filth and called on the Environmental Health and Sanitation Division of the assembly to help curb the situation.

Communication and supervision

The Deputy Director of Education of the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Rev. George Abbey, advised parents to communicate with their children in the local language.

Rev. Abbey explained that it was easier when parents communicated in the local language with the children because they are able to express themselves.

He also charged parents to visit their children’s schools to check on their performance in class to ensure that they were faring well in their studies.
