ICT facility for Mepom Presbyterian JHS

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Sun Baohong, has inaugurated an ICT facility valued at GH¢91, 050 for pupils of the Mepom Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS) near Adeiso in the West Akyim District in the Eastern Region.

The facility is stocked with 30 computers and a wireless projector, other auxiliary facilities such as well-fitted air conditioners,  internet connectivity and dual desks.

The project, undertaken under the partnership of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) and the Chinese Embassy in Accra, also included the refurbishment and provision of 135 dual desks for the six-unit classroom of the school.

The ambassador also donated 135 pieces of school bags and other stationery to the school.

 In addition to the above, she donated 300 knapsack sprayers, 300 Wellington boots and machetes to Sukrong Jerusalem, a farming community near Adeiso in the same district.

 At the inauguration,  Madam Baohong said education determined the future of every country and its people and that was why  the Chinese, Government was committed to helping Ghana develop its human resource needs.

She said last year, a total of 518 Ghanaian students received various kinds of scholarships to study in China, bringing  the number of Ghanaian students in China to over 4,600.

“The economy is the foundation for the development of education and only by vigorously developing the economy can we truly and completely solve the problem of rural education and uneven distribution of educational resources,” she said.

She said, so far, under GHACHIFA, five ICT projects had been inaugurated in some rural communities in Ghana to make the learning of ICT accessible to schoolchildren in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the President, the Minister for Communication-designate and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, thanked the Chinese government for its continuous support to the country and pledged the new government’s commitment to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Ghana and China.

For his part, the General Secretary of GHACHIFA, Mr Danny Easmon Mawuenyega, said the association aimed at building at least 10 ICT facilities across the country in the next few years.

He said the association would also want to promote cultural and educational exchanges, joint trade missions, networking, building business contacts, as well as strenthening bilateral relations between the governments of both countries.
