The ICT centre was part of a prize promised a teacher of the school, Miss Belinda Ayesu, who was adjudged the best teacher in ICT in an ICT training programme dubbed  iTeach,"  for teachers drawn from the Eastern Region.

The Chief of Boso, Nana Osei Nyarko III, who cut the tape to declare the  centre officially opened, commended Miss Ayensu, and expressed the hope that individuals and various organisations would assist the ICT centre to serve the Boso community and its environs.

Miss Ayesu had already been presented with a laptop, a smartphone and 10 computers costing GH¢15,000 for the ICT centre.

The iTeach programme was organised by Dream Oval Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the MTN Foundation and the Aseshi University.

The head teacher of the school, Mr Samuel Saku, said the Boso Anglican School was established in 1940 and currently had a population of 223 pupils and 11 teachers.

He said in spite of the school’s good records, the school was facing a number of infrastructural  problems.

He said it was unfortunate that in the era of computer-based education, the school could not boast a single computer, thus making teaching and learning of ICT difficult.

The Executive Secretary and Senior Manager of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mr Robert Kuzoe, commended Miss Ayesu for her outstanding performance  during the iTeach 2013 training. He said it was as a result of her hard work that the community had  received  the ICT centre.

He, therefore, encouraged other teachers to take advantage of the ICT centre to upgrade their skills and help students with their academic work.

He said the MTN Foundation, recognising the importance of ICT and its numerous benefits to both teachers and students, accepted to support the iTeach 2013 training programme.

Mr Kudzoe said since the establishment of the MTN Foundation in 2007, the foundation had invested over GH¢13 million in more than 80 life-enhancing projects in the areas of education, health and economic empowerment in all the regions of Ghana.

Some of their projects, he said, were the 50-seater ICT centre for the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies, Bunso; refurbishment of the Mpraeso Methodist Junior High School; a six-unit classroom block with an office and a store for the Kodjonya School.

The President of GNAT, Mr Samuel Doe Alubia, revealed that the collaboration between his outfit and the Dream Oval Foundation to provide teachers with basic training began in 2010.

At the ceremony, GNAT promised the ICT centre a projector, and Mr  Ameyaw, a Director at the Boso Rural Bank, personally donated a laser jet printer and an air conditioner to the ICT centre.
