The project, initiated by the Light for Children Ghana (LIFOC), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), with financial commitment from an American volunteer, Ms Rebecca Kuntz, and her family, has the objective of supporting the efforts of the government to promote education in the country.

The ICT centre is equipped with 25 computers, while the library has also been stocked with 1,000 different kinds of storybooks and textbooks to boost education in the school.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr Kwesi Esson Nunoo, Head of Inspectorate Division of the Kumasi Metro of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said ICT had become a major key to education.

He said the government could no longer foot the burden of the development of education, and therefore there was the need for individual Ghanaians, NGOs and the international development partners to support the efforts of the government to improve on the level of education in the country in the areas of logistics and infrastructural development.

He said children were assets, and therefore there was the need for parents, individuals and NGOs to facilitate their  acquisition of proper education and skills to enable them to face future challenges.

Mr Yaw Otchere Baffour, Executive Director of Light for Children Ghana (LIFOC), said the vision of the organisation was to support the efforts of the government to promote education and social development in the country, especially in rural areas.

He urged the students and teachers of the school to take good care of the computers to enhance its lifespan.

Ms Kuntz said the facility was provided for the students in response to their request for assistance.

She expressed the hope that the library, ICT and other facilities would boost the teaching of ICT and encourage the culture of reading among the students.
